  3. WizManager is a powerful, innovative Windows 3.1 and Windows 
  4. for Workgroups File Manager add-on. It appends many features 
  5. missing in File Manager, and enhances your power to manage your 
  6. disks and files. WizManager maximizes your efficiency and makes 
  7. working in File Manager a breeze.

  17. -> WizManager's Buttonbar uses powerful techniques to provide
  18.    speed and innovative features. This can push certain Windows
  19.    video drivers for ACCELERATED video boards to the edge. Make
  20.    sure you have the latest video drivers for your video board.
  21.    Standard video drivers provided with Windows (VGA and 
  22.    SuperVGA) cause no problem.

  24.    If you encounter General Protection Fault (GPF) error
  25.    messages while running WizManager, start the Windows Setup
  26.    program and change the video driver of your system to a
  27.    standard Windows video driver (VGA or Super VGA for example)
  28.    and determine whether General Protection Fault messages 
  29.    still appear. If they don't, update the video drivers you 
  30.    were using to the latest available version. If GPF messages 
  31.    persist with the standard Windows drivers, please contact 
  32.    Mijenix.

  35.    [AddOns] section:
  36.  
  37. Extensions to File Manager are not executable files (EXE) but
  38. Dynamic Link Libraries (DLL) which are automatically loaded by
  39. File Manager when the latter is started and destroyed when File
  40. Manager is closed.
  41.  
  42. How does File Manager 'know' or recognize extensions?
  43.  
  44. File Manager gets all the necessary information by reading its
  45. initialization file WINFILE.INI (not WIN.INI!) which is located
  46. in the Windows directory. The different data in WINFILE.INI is
  47. sorted by sections (a section title is enclosed in square
  48. brackets [...]). The section of interest for recognizing and
  49. loading extensions is called [AddOns]. This is where extension
  50. paths are declared, one per line, in the form (example):
  51.  
  52.            [AddOns]
  53.            Extension1=PathToExtension1\extension1.dll
  54.            Extension2=PathToExtension2\extension2.dll
  55.  
  56. Each extension will add a top-level menu to File Manager. The
  57. documentation for the Windows File Manager Extender Interface
  58. states that 5 top-level menus may be added to the File Manager
  59. menu. However, due to what appears to be a bug in Windows File
  60. Manager, the fifth menu item does not work properly. Any
  61. command selected from the fifth menu item becomes confused with
  62. the adjacent File Manager "Window" menu, and the corresponding
  63. command from the "Window" menu is executed instead.

  65. What this means is simple:
  66. DO NOT DECLARE MORE THAN 4 EXTENSIONS IN THE [AddOns] section!

  68. You may presently be using File Manager Extensions, like
  69.  
  70.            - DOS 6 Tools (Microsoft)
  71.            - MetzLaunch (Metz TaskManager)
  72.            - NDW (Norton Desktop)
  73.            - File Commander (Wilson WindowWare)
  74.            - FExtend (BarbarSoft)
  75.            - or others.

  77. As File Manager limits you to 4 extensions, it is up to you to
  78. "keep up" and maintain the [AddOns] section of WINFILE.INI. If
  79. you have more than 4 declarations under [AddOns], simply type a
  80. ';' (without the quotes) at the beginning of the line(s) you
  81. want File Manager to ignore. This lets you keep all the
  82. declarations in case you decide later to alter your choices and
  83. start only the ones you need.

  85. During the installation of WizManager, the [AddOns] section of
  86. WINFILE.INI is updated to include the WizManager library path.
  87. This declaration is appended at the end of the [AddOns]
  88. section. If more than 3 other declarations exist above
  89. WizManager's line, proceed as explained above to cancel out one
  90. or more declarations (use Notepad.exe for example to edit
  91. WINFILE.INI, and modify the [AddOns] entries only).

  104. Mijenix Corp. will soon port WizManager to the 32-bit world of
  105. Windows NT and Windows 4 (Chicago). However, the WizManager 
  106. version you have installed is a set of 16-bit DLL's written for 
  107. Windows 3.10 and Windows for Workgroups (WFW); it will not work 
  108. under Windows NT or Windows 4 (Chicago).
